Organic Magic at Ash Ridge

Ash Ridge Winery 2026
Tucked away in the world-famous Bridge Pa Triangle wine-growing district of Hawke’s Bay, Ash Ridge Winery stands as a shining example of what happens when passion meets sustainable stewardship. This boutique, family-owned estate—lovingly run by owner-operators Leith and Tracy Ashworth alongside their three children and charismatic vineyard dog, Winston—is redefining the local boutique wine scene.
Soil, Sun, and Sustainability
The magic of Ash Ridge begins in the dirt. Situated on the ancient floodplains of the Ngaruroro River, the vineyard features exceptional, free-draining “red metal” soils overlaid with greywacke and volcanic ash. This unique terroir mimics the legendary conditions of Bordeaux, providing an perfect environment for premium viticulture.
As of the 2022 harvest, Ash Ridge achieved fully certified organic status. Rather than relying on synthetic chemicals, the Ashworths practice holistic agriculture. If you take a stroll through the vines, you are likely to spot sheep and cattle roaming the property. These animals act as natural lawnmowers and canopy managers, fostering a self-sustaining ecosystem that leaves the land better for future generations.
Award-Winning, Handcrafted Varietals
Every single drop of wine at Ash Ridge is handcrafted on-site by a passionate, small team. Specializing in stunning Syrah and Chardonnay, they also produce vibrant Merlot, Cabernet, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Their dedication has not gone unnoticed. In addition to a string of gold medals, their 2024 Estate Pinot Grisrecently took home the top trophy at the Hawke’s Bay A&P Wine Awards. For an extra personal touch, the Ash Ridge Family Range features limited editions dedicated to the personalities of the Ashworth children, such as the lively “Elodie Bubbles” and the sweet “Winston Ruby Syrah”.
