Responsible Drinking

Enjoying wine can be a delightful experience, and there are tips to savor it responsibly. Taking time to appreciate the flavors and aromas also assists in processing the alcohol through your digestive system.

Pairing your wine with food can enhance the tasting experience, whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or unwinding after a long day. Embracing the culture of wine with respect and care helps ensure every glass is a moment of joy and connection.

Advice for responsibble drinking in New Zealand is based on a standard drink.

1 standard drink = 10g of pure alcohol. That amount of pure alcohol is typically found in:

  • a 330 ml can of standard beer
  • a 100 ml small glass of wine
  • a 30 ml shot of straight spirits.

Standard drinks information can be found on a bottle, can or cask. The strength of the alcohol is important in this.

General guidelines around the world seem to agree on around 3 standard drinks per day, especially if the drinking is spread over a reasonable amount of time, and if water and/or food is consumed around the same time as drinking.
